Today Marc Schuster posted “This curious girl who could breathe underwater” an interview with Kathryn on his blog ~Abominations.
Here is how Marc introduces himself: “I used to do a bit of writing, but then I got into music. That’s the short version of the story, anyway. I’m particularly curious about independent artists and musicians — how and why they do what they do — so I decided to start interviewing them on this blog and playing their music on my weekly radio show, The Tweetcore Radio Hour. It’s on AMS Radio every Wednesday at 7PM EST (4 pm PST) also available as a podcast.
Marc’s delightful interview title is referencing the street art, in Florence, Italy, that inspired Kathryn’s lyrics and her sons name for the new band. Read more details in the first Blue Dirt Girl blog post.
In the current indie music scene people like Marc who write blog posts and then, as a huge bonus, play the artists music on their radio shows are one in a million.
Most blogs and reviews of new indie music require the artist to pay for it.
Music bloggers like Marc, and Dennis Mills who reviewed BDG’s EP “Nothing is as it was” 2021, Round Magazine who reviewed our new album “No street signs No straight lines” 2023, Stuart Derdeyn who reviewed both our first album “Crazy Beautiful” (2016) and our EP (2021), d0 not ask for any payment. Theses people do reviews and interviews because they have a passion for new music. It does not matter if the artists have 1 million streams or 200 their music deserves to be heard. Read all the aformentioned reviews here.
So thank you to all the reviews of our music from audience members, friends, family, radio shows, radio and streaming platform listeners, newspapers, online mags and comments on our Youtube videos and socials.
By taking the time to write about our music you extend Blue Dirt Girl’s audience, patrons at our shows, requests for House Concerts, shows and Festivals and increase funds from streaming and purchase of our music.
Art on this post is used with the permission of the artist Blub-La arte sa nuotare
Note when Kathryn reached out to the Blub La arte sa nuotare, in 2015, they never skipped a beat with allowing Kathryn to use their art for anything Blue Dirt Girl related. This was a rare occurrence and a fond memory.
Thanks you for the kind words about my blog! I’ll have to check out the other writers you mention!
As i said it’s a great day when someone finds our music and takes the time talk about it, play it on radio show and blog post it. So thank you Marc. Here is Dennis Mills on substack https://densemilt.substack.com/p/smells-like-rainbow-sounds-like-velvet and you know Jeff already. Stuart Derdeyn is our Vancouver Sun Arts Reporter. We have had 2 reviews from Stuart which is super fine https://vancouversun.com/entertainment/five-things-to-know-about-music-for-self-isolation-by-frank-horvat#:~:text=Blue%20Dirt%20Girl&text=The%20latest%20four%20song%20EP,sinewy%20bass%20lines%20in%20BLOOD.
