Dark Heart was written and arranged by Deb Copeland, Lorraine Finch, Robbie Miller and Kathryn Sutherland. It is a sad song about sad people who appear to live to bring pain to those around them. Luckily Dark Heart has blue dirt girl’s jazzy gypsy soul swing recording to dance those blues away.
We were very lucky to have Simon, not only record and engineer but play his thumb tack piano and accordian, but to invite Evan Arntzen in to play clarinet on this track. It was a joy to watch Evan just roll into a great part for this song using blue dirt girl’s bed tracks. Jason’s drums, Albert’s stand up bass and Kathryn’s electric guitar parts were live off the floor. Simon came in later with his wonderful piano and heintzman accordian parts.
It became a blue dirt girl recording tradition for Kathryn to return to the studio each day and find Simon, in the wee hours, had laid down amazing parts for the songs.
This wonderful song was written with my band mates in Hello(again) and East Van based band. “Changing the world one song at a time”
Thanks again for agreeing to have blue dirt girl take a spin at recording this song!
