Blue Dirt Girl starts recording their new album this Saturday, November 15th, with Kathryn on lead vocals, reverend electric guitar and various pedals, Albert on electric bass, harmonies and unique mandolin tracks. Check out this blog post ‘Modern Soul with mandolin’  (2022) and see Albert using a slide on his mandolin in a unique fashion for our 2023 single My Alice Moment.

We are back again, at Park Sound Studio, with the uber talented engineer Dan Ponich.  We are excited to be working with a new drummer/percussionist, Taylor Pawson, on this album.

If you are interested in the how, why, what of the band’s Studio recording process follow Kathryn’s studio session posts on IG or FB.  Or wait and catch Kathryn’s blog post when the sessions are complete.

The band has two new videos up on Blue Dirt Girl’s Youtube Channel:

2. A lyric video for ‘How’s Arizona’, a single off the band’s last album No Street Signs No Straight Lines (2023).

The video was created by Calla Pickett, Vancouver based singer, songwriter, and biologist. They wrote the song and allowed the band to record it as an original cover.

Calla’s made this video personally special by using many shots of Saturna Island, the last in a string of Gulf Islands on the West Coast of Canada, in their video. Kathryn and Calla’s families have had many magical moments, over the last 23 years, on Saturna.

2. Kathryn created a 8 minute video encapsulating Blue Dirt Girl’s VIA RAIL VANCOUVER TO TORONTO and BACK Tour 2025 performances.

She had plenty of fodder from multiple short videos from Albert’s wife, Kath Klassen, and their close friend Bethan. In addition, the bands new fans and friends from India, Peter and Anjuli, shared their train videos of both dancing at Blue Dirt Girl’s last performance, as the train sped along, and discussing song ideas.

We played, three shows a day on the train. We performed both original songs, which were rejigged for mandolin, acoustic guitar with voice/harmonies, and classic Canadian songs. Watch, listen and hear about the Via Rail Tour on Kathryn’s previous blog post.

Many of the original songs, the duo played on the Via train, are on the upcoming album. One big difference is that the songs will be recorded in studio and amplified with the addition of drums, synth and keys.

Kathryn’s great friend and fellow artist, Kiki Yee, posted some reflections on her children growing up.
Kiki always loved our 2021 single, DREAMS, because it reminded her of the beautiful time when her children were younger. Thank you Kiki for sharing a Youtube link to our DREAMS lyric video on your post.
If you have not had a chance please watch the video by Maya Chepovetsky.

Kathryn wrote Dreams to describe the lovely days when her children were young and free, the ups and downs of life and giving both her boys warm safe hands to come home too.

Kiki is also connected to DREAMS because Kathryn commissioned her to create original sketches for the front cover and 4 singles on Blue Dirt Girl’s EP ‘Nothing is as it was'(2021). Kiki’s art was a smashing success!
