With my Blue Dirt Girl 10th Anniversary approaching fast it’s a good time to revisit the impetus for my tag line “because i said i would’ My older brother Kent had been encouraging me for years to step out and create my own music. So I did. My tagline is a constant reminder of that promise.
Recently, I created two new Youtube videos with my artist friend Deb Copeland. We spent a weekend on Saturna Island, BC, Canada filming the videos for WITH NATURE AND I and SONG OF THE CRAWDAD Both songs are single off BDG’s latest album No Street Signs No Straight Lines.
For With Nature and I we played my Dad’s super 8 family films over me as I sang the song.
Song of the Crawdad was inspired by both Delia Owens character Kaya in her novel Where the Crawdads Sing and personal experiences. I had always thought the video would have a hot bayou vibe instead Deb shot the video as I stood in the pouring rain. She reversed the video to create the eerie effect. I am not accustomed to having myself as the focus of videos so these film shoots were especially poignant. They would not have happened without Deb behind the camera.
Deb Copeland is a 2D Animator and director. She also creates custom wallpaper, fabric and outfits check out her website
i have always wondered about the story behind the tagline and now i know! love it! thanks for sharing.
i bet you and Albert are readying yourselves for the train – choo choo! have an amazing time.
