Blue Dirt Girl + KLAME = Our new trio with a very new sound.

A genre defying indie project featuring strong and nuanced vocalist, a well versed bassist on stand up and electric bass, and an eclectic composer of loops, beats and percussion. Together, the trio imagines original sound compositions.

Blue Dirt Girl + Klame is: Courtenay based  artist and musician Josh Klassen, a dear friend of Blue Dirt Girland bassist Albert’s nephew + Blue Dirt Girl lead singer/guitarist/songwriter Kathryn Sutherland and bassist Albert Klassen.

In the fall of 2023 Josh and Kathryn finally started their, long hoped for, collaboration creating music with Kathryn’s vocals and lyrics over Josh’s beats/loops. The magic was immediate. We knew we needed to have Albert join us on both his electric bass and stand up.

An opportunity for Blue Dirt Girl + Klame to create original music came quickly in December 2023.

Kathryn was introduced to Trish Belsham, Gruff Goat Dance, Creative Director, by Sarah-Dawn Robichaud a Saturna Island compadre, big fan of our Blue Dirt Girl music, GGD member, trained dancer, yoga instructor,  co-owner of La Cucina Restaurant on Saturna. Trish was considering live original music for her upcoming show. Kathryn and Trish met and their like minded ideas around collaboration, music tastes, process of creating and agreement to create top quality professional live shows at stellar venues sealed the decision. Albert and Josh agreed and the creative work began for our Echoes of Narcissus shows.

Echoes of Narcissus ~ an immersive, multidisciplinary performance featuring contemporary dance by Gruff Goat Dance and live music by Blue Dirt Girl + Klame.

The narrative draws on the myth of Narcissus and Echo, portrayed by dancers’ villainous alter egos among alchemical forces witnessed by a chorus of stellar musicians performing a live score.
