A challenge of spending time at Saturna Island is keeping up rehearsals with Albert in East Vancouver.  Jamkazam is an online portal where you can play live and in sync from different locations.

Unfortunately, after multiple hard wiring to routers and Starlink satellite attempts I could not get the latency fixed. Until Saturna Island gets fiber optics Jamkazam is not an option for Albert and I.  We are rehearsing together in East Van and individually when I am on Island. We will be in tip top shape for our Summer Shows. Here is a short video with a bit of positivity amid the frustrations.

Jamkazam was a lifesaver during the pandemic. Albert and I rehearsed 2 x per week and created 2 new songs:  ‘With Nature and I’ and ‘Summer Solstice’

I posted songwriting process video clips on our BDG Youtube Channel. Take a minute to watch and read the YT notes on the process of creating these 2 songs.

‘With Nature and I’ (1) ‘With Nature and I’ (2)  featuring original art by Vancouver based artist and animator Deb Copeland.

‘Summer Solstice’ online and home studio experimenting.

‘Summer Solstice’ (2) this video is after COVID. We had a heat dome happening, but no matter, our band mentee Max Evans came over to play his sweet lead guitar ideas, on SS, at a rehearsal with Albert and I. We were prepping for Summer Concerts and our 2021 ‘Nothing is as it was’ EP studio recording was in process as well.

“With Nature and I’ made it onto our latest album ‘No  STreeT SIgNs No StrAiGHt LInes’ and ‘Summer Solstice’ is on the list for future studio recordings and on our setlists.

We are very excited to be invited back to play  The Grand Prix of Art Festival 2024 in Steveston, BC again this year. Albert and I are hoping Tony Lee will sit in with us again on drums.

Mark July 27th on your calendar our Blue Dirt Girl sets are from 1-3 pm.

The Grand Prix of Art is artists of all ages and experience levels are assigned a painting location along Steveston’s Historic Waterfront for this 3 hour challenge.  The public is encouraged to visit the 35 amazing locations by bike or on foot, stopping to cheer on their favourite artist.  A Free Bike Valet will be available at Britannia Shipyards so visitors can enjoy the exhibition and other festivities. The Artisan Market and Live music happen both days as well. Festival runs July 27th/28th, 2024.

  • Ben says:

Oh wow!! Thanks for the tip on Jamkazam, I’ve struggled with latency as well in attempting those kind of things. All the best to you guys with your upcoming events, looks like you got some summer plans!

    • Hey again Ben, There is a possible positive outcome. I am in discussions with HELP CENTRE at Jamkazam. They are giving Albert and I some tips on back end set up that may solve the latency issue. Fingers crossed.
